The Effect on the Life Satisfaction of Poverty of Single Households Based on The Capability Approach of Amartya Sen

Abstract
This paper aims to understand poverty of single households according to the Capability Approach of Amartya Sen. The final sample, 1,578 persons living alone and aged over 50 were selected from the data of Korea Welfare Panel Study in 2014. And then, classified them into 4 groups by age, ¡®The Semi-Aged(Aged 50-64 Years) , ¡®The Younger-Old(Aged 65-74 Years) , ¡®The Older-Old(Aged 75-84 Years) , ¡®The Oldest-Old(Aged 85 over) . The capability to measure poverty of each group were classified by 5 lists ; ¡®Clothing, Food, and Housing Life , ¡®Health , ¡®Economic , ¡®Relationships , ¡®Structure . ANOVA were used to explain deprivation among groups, multiple regressions were used to explain relationships between Quality of life and 5 lists.
The result were as follows. The Semi-Aged showed a high rate of negative health behavior, family conflicts, and low rate of housing-life s quality, home ownership, joining Public Pension. The post-65 cohort suffered chronic diseases, income poverty, in common. The Younger-Old had high poverty rate of chronic diseases. The Older-Old experienced high rate of chronic diseases, income poverty. The Oldest-Old experienced low-level Clothing habits and eating habits, income poverty, living expenses, home ownership, Opportunity welfare-service, high-level chronic diseases, depression. This paper findings have suggestions for policy to consider support single households by age.
